UNHA LEIRA DE MILLO
Exhibition
Curated by Alberto González-Alegre,
Espacio SVT, Vigo.
Cynthia Alfonso and Óscar Raña use the language of comics and its popular coding to develop a sequential pictorial exercise that proposes an expanded loop where the paintings, like comic panels positioned to invade the exhibition space, are imbued with ambiguous abstraction, chromatic enigmas, and unsettling geometry. Furthermore, the concept of the ‘leira’ (field) guides the procedural dimension of the proposal, as it seeks to reference the dynamics of collective work characteristic of early rural life, considering the different sections of the work and their spatial extremes (wall, canvas, image) as territories to be divided and cultivated among the artists. The resulting scene, close to the notion of installation and far removed from the private connotation commonly associated with the division of land and labor, presents an open and immersive experience aimed at a diverse and active audience; inviting, in turn, a critical perspective on hierarchical boundaries.” between disciplines, social spheres, and cultural strata.
